ASUU Agrees to suspend strike
The Academic Staff Union of Universities has agreed to suspend its 8 months old strike which has grounded academic activities in the public universities.
The union leadership reached the consensus on Friday during a meeting with the federal government team led by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, in Abuja.
The government had pledged to pay N40 billion as the Earned Allowance and N30bn for the revitalisation of the university system.
Based on the agreement, the federal government will expend 70 billion naira on university system.
The Federal Government also agreed to settle the arrears of salaries of the lecturers before December 31.
