I Have Passion For Taking Care of Women With Mental Challenge – Osun First Lady

Wife of Osun State Governor, Mrs. Kafayat Oyetola said her passion for taking care of the mentally challenged people especially women, dates back to 16 years ago.

She attributed mental challenge suffered by most women to marital issues, hence the need to care for them.

Mrs. Oyetola was Speaking on Monday at the palace of Alapomu during the handing over of Labake Najeem, a lady she took from there and requested to take care of when she was mentally challenged

She said “Labake was not the first (mentally challenged person) that I have taken care of. The first was 16 years ago,. After she was stable, I sent her child to primary and secondary school. Now she has written JAMB and I have spoken to the Vice Chancellor of Osun State University on her admission.

“I thank God that I took only Labake away for medical care and now I am returning her with her child. I also want to thank the medical personnel at the State Hospital, Asubiaro, they tried a lot and took a very good care of her. They assured me that they would take care of her that I did not need to take her to Yaba in Lagos like I used to do. Now Labake is fine”, Mrs. Oyetola said.

The First Lady however urged the people of Apomu especially those around her to support and not discriminate against her.

She then thanked the Alapomu of Apomu, Oba Kayode Afolabi for granting the request to take Labake for medical treatment.

“I urge us in this town, we should support Labake and not discriminate against her so that she can fulfill her destiny. I have good plans for her and I pray God to support me in making it a reality.

The Alapomu who welcomed Mrs. Oyetola to his palace amidst pump and pageantry appreciated the gesture and prayed for the successful tenure of Governor Gboyega Oyetola just as he prayed God’s continued support for the first lady.

“She was here for a different programme but because of her kindness. When she saw Labake troubling me, she inquired about her. I told her that Labake has mental challenge and I asked her to come to the palace every week to collect N2000. I had no option than to release Labake when she promised to look after her and her pregnancy.

“The First Lady promised to rehabilitate her. While she was with them, Labake initially gave them a lot of problem. They carried out series of tests on her until she was delivered of her baby. Labake is now a different person.

“What you did for us in Apomu amazes us. May God continue to give you piece of mind. We are very grateful for the wonderful opportunity. Let me assure your that, anytime you think of Apomu be rest assured that we are on the same page.

Also speaking, the Olori of Alapomu, Princess Janet Afolabi said Labake’s new baby, whose naming ceremony coincides with her birthday has become her child and she is willing to postpone the birthday celebration for that purpose.

After she had been treated of the challenge she had, Labake was delivered of a new baby last week Thursday, at the State Hospital Asubiaro, Osogbo and later insisted they return her to Apomu.

The naming ceremony will hold at the palace this Wednesday.
