Baba-Ahmed: ADC Deceiving Nigerians

Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has accused the African Democratic Congress (ADC)-led coalition of deceiving Nigerians, while insisting he remains loyal to Peter Obi and the Labour Party.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Baba-Ahmed described the ADC alliance as misleading and warned that Nigerians should be cautious of its intentions.

“They are deceiving us,” he said bluntly. “I am a Labour Party man, for God’s sake. I am Peter Obi’s man. I still want Peter Obi to come back to the Labour Party and contest in 2027.”

Baba-Ahmed did not stop at party politics. He launched a scathing attack on Nigeria’s electoral system, calling the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) past conduct a “subversion of the constitution” and identifying electoral fraud as the root cause of the nation’s crises.

“Electoral fraud is right now the single most important issue to be addressed in our life as a nation, even beyond insecurity,” he said. “Insecurity is derived from electoral fraud. Corruption is aggravated by the kind of electoral fraud that we have.

Not somebody who clearly read what the constitution provides—25 per cent in at least two-thirds of states of the Federation and the FCT, but went ahead to breach it and put Nigeria in what it is today.”

Baba-Ahmed urged that for the 2027 elections, INEC must restore credibility and competence to ensure a transparent process.

In response, ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, dismissed Baba-Ahmed’s comments, saying, “When he begins to make sense, we will respond.”

The former LP vice-presidential candidate’s remarks highlight continuing tensions within opposition coalitions, raising questions about the unity and direction of alternative political platforms ahead of the 2027 elections.
