Drama as Osun pensioners protest against ex-gov Aregbesola over unpaid entitlements, say he’s architect of their suffering

There was mild drama Friday morning in Osogbo, Osun State as a group of pensioners protested against former governor of the State, Rauf Aregbesola over nonpayment of their entitlements.

The group under the umbrella of Forum of 2012 Contributory Pensioners blamed the minister of interior as the architect of their predicament right from his time as the governor of the State.

Aregbesola was in Osun as a special guest to inaugurate the newly built State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service being the minister superintending the agency.

Before the programme kicked off, the protesters gathered at a location, a few meters away from the venue of the inauguration carrying different placards with various inscriptions to register their displeasure against the interior minister.

They had matched a few meters singings different songs to drive home their demands, saying “Aregbesola was not a leader worthy of celebrating”.

Addressing newsmen, a leader of the group, Yemi Laval appealed to the federal government to come to the rescue of the State whose financial capacity could not cater for it needs including payment of pension.

“As it is, Osun State government is paying so much to service huge debt incurred by the last administration.

“The State needs up to fifty (50) billion naira to settle pension. So we want president Buhari to bail out the State.

“We also want a probe into the mismanagement of contributory pension under the watch of Aregbesola. He’s the one behind our problems now.”

The minister of interior was unaware of the protest as it was staged few meters away from the venue and concluded before the inauguration of the Correctional service Headquarters started.
