Sequel to approval granted it, the Federal Polytechnic, Ede will soon commence the award of higher degrees in its various programmes.
This is just as 6,857 fresh students were matriculated into the various programmes offered by the Polytechnic for the 2021/2022 Academic Session
The Rector, Dr. John Adekolawole dropped the hints on Friday at the 28th Matriculation Ceremony of the institution.
According to him, degrees such as Master Of Technology (M.Tech) and Doctor of Technology (Ph.D. Tech), adding that graduates of Higher National Diploma (HND) of the school can proceed to Master of Technology without having to do Postgraduate Diploma.
He appealed to staff of the institution to get prepared for the smooth take off and the task ahead.
“With this our HND graduates can proceed to M.Tech directly. Also, the dichotomy between the HND and B.Sc has been addressed to the delight of many. Of course this development is a thing of joy to some of us who have been in the forefront for the harmonization and parity of University and Polytechnic education in Nigeria For emphasis, the Federal Polytechnic, Ede already has the legal framework as enshrined in the Polytechnic Amended Act, 2019 It is therefore, our hope to commence the award of M.Tech in our various programmes very soon.
“With this development, l want to seize this opportunity to encourage and appeal to all my colleagues to get prepared for the task ahead. Furthermore, the recently released template which made possession of Ph.D. as a major criteria for the position of Rector in Federal Polytechnics did not only underscore the point being stressed but is a pointer to the fact that the Federal Government is serious with the degree award programme.”
While congrarulating the matriculants, the Rector admonished them to steer clear any practices and behaviours capable of bringing the image of the Polytechnic into disrepute.
“Our stable academic calendar, unique programmes, world-class ocademic standard, serene and conducive compus have made the Polytechnic attractive to many who desire quality Polytechnic education since incepton. Some of you would have, most likely, come here because of the nice stories you heard about the Federal Polytechnic Ede. I want to admonish you to at all times abstain from any practices and behaviours capable of bringing the good image the Polytechnic has labored relentlessly to build in the past years into disrepute.”
“It is worthy to also inform you that the Polytechnic has zero tolerance for cultism and other sundry anti social vices like riot, looting, arson, cultism, disobedience, examination malpractices, drug abuse drunkenness, cheating, disrespect for constituted authorities indecent dressing etc.
“The Polytechnic detests cheating in examination in any form and would not hesitate to take immediate action on such matter. Also cultism is an aberration in the Polytechnic. In your own interest you are advised to be of good behavior throughout your studentship”, he added.
