Governor Oyetola Suspends 24-hour curfew in Osun

Governor, Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State has suspended the 24-hour curfew, effective from today, Friday, October 23, 2020 till further notice.

The Government notes the high level of compliance with the 24-hour curfew earlier declared to forestall breakdown of law and order.

The announcement came few hours after the inauguration of the State’s Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Police Brutality in the State.

In release signed by the Secretary to the Secretary to the state government, Prince Wole Oyebamiji, the government commends the residents and citizens of Osun for their show of understanding and cooperation during the last the curfew.

It equally commends the youth for displaying high sense of maturity in carrying out their protest.

“After reviewing the situation of the last 48 hours and following the inauguration of the State’s Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Police Brutality, the Governor, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola, hereby suspends the 24-hour curfew, effective from today, Friday, October 23, 2020 till further notice”.

According to the release, the suspension is to allow members of the public approach the Judicial Panel of Inquiry to make their submissions and to go about their lawful businesses.

It however warns that government will not hesitate to reinstate the curfew should the need arise.

It expresses government’s remains commitment to the cause of the youth and the #EndSARS protesters and will take every necessary step to ensure that their demands are met.

It also appeals to the protesting youths to suspend their protest and engage Government in a dialogue.

The release enjoins citizens and residents to be peaceful and law abiding as all efforts will be made to protect them and their property.
