‘I m not surprised Gov Ortum called Buhari a Fulani President’ – Oyinlola

Former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola on Wednesday said he was not surprised that Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortum branded President Muhammodu Buhari ‘a Fulani President’.

Oyinlola spoke in Osogbo in his welcome address as the chairman of the maiden edition of guest platform, a quarterly programme of the Osun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.

He described the country’s security situation as appalling so much that the government was lost in thought as to proffering solution to it.

“Some factors are responsible for the security challenges facing us as a nation. Bad constitution which allows the IG and other security chiefs to be responsible only to the president in a federalism is bad.”

“Governors are called Chief Security officer of their States, they support security agencies with funds to purchase vehicles but they don’t have command and control over the security agencies”.

“So, I m not surprise that governor ortum called Buhari a Fulani President because his body language shows it,” he lamented.

The guest lecturer who is a former Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin Universitiy, Akungba-akoko, Professor Femi Mimiko said it was obvious that the country was overwhelmed by myriads of security challenges and there was no will power by the government to tackle.

He said there was lack of trust in government on the part of the citizens leading to withdrawal of support for the country.

“There are evidences that the country is getting increasingly overwhelmed by the security situation. There is demonstrable lack of will to face the situation. Economic opportunities are shrinking for Nigerians.”

“Economic challenges are part of the reason for being in the present security situation. People have withdrawn their support for Nigeria. There is the need to build the trust to make things work”, Mimiko said.

Prof. Mimiko echoed the need for restructuring to address the current security challenges facing the country.
Another speaker at the eveny, retired General Bashir Adewinbi believe that the country’s security is misplaced in terms of priority.

He said “Security laid foundation for all development. If it is compromised, These are prerequisite for a country to go into a state of anarchy. A govt that is not trusted by citizen will not get their confidence”.

Suggesting way forward, general Winbi said there must be a strategy to withdraw the harms in the hands of criminals and strengthen the police for internal security.

“The police must be properly trained, funded and provided logistics to do their job of internal security.

The Orangun of Oke-ila, Oba Adedokun Abolarin called for urgent solution the security challenges to sustain the nations unity in diversity.

However, the traditional ruler said “We should not lose hope in the Nigeria enterprise but until certain things are done, the country cannot move forward.”
Heads of Security agencies in attendance said, security is too important to be left in the hand of security agencies alone.

According to the chairman, Osun NUJ council, Comrade Wasiu Ajadosu, the theme, of the lecture “Appraisal of State Security in Nigeria, yesterday, today and tomorrow; the way forward” was burn out of concern of journalists towards emplacing a secure Nigeria.
