LEADERSHIP FAILURE, YOUTHS AND NATION BUILDING – By Tunde Olatunji

It was a black Tuesday.
Our greatest national asset ,the youths were attacked.
There was heavy shootings where our innocent and harmless youths were gathered to demand for a functional country.
Tears are flowing freely in the land, emotions running high and anger seriously brewing.
24hours after the monumental national tragedy, the country is yet to be addressed.
A whole day into the large scale assault on our country’s economic nerve center, at a time of global and national economic downturn, nothing has been said.
This is purely Leadership failure and no need mincing words.
At this very trying moment in our national life, all of us privileged to occupy any leadership position today and even in the past decades, must, as a mark of accountability, apologise profusely to the youths and Nigerians. I will also take from the past and give for the present. From the lowest office in the land to the highest office. Be it elected or appointed and regardless of party affiliation or inclination. For anybody to think of playing politics or fan the embers of tension through inciting statements, deliberate falsehoods and attack is evil and no less than crime against humanity.
Leadership is hinged on the fulcrum of accountability. Even when we may not be directly responsible for an action or inaction, we are still accountable.
The sacrifices of these youths and heros/heroine must not be in vain. This is a golden chance to build a functional and prosperous society the youths are demanding and the time is NOW. This is the best time to earn back the trust of the people.
More importantly, this vision can not be realised without the active engagement of the creative capacity of the youths, our greatest assets.

I believe so much in our youths and I trust their creative and productive capacities. I have always known that youths are the secret to Nigeria’s greatness and I know what they are capable of doing for Nigeria to achieve it’s full potential.
Any society that Ignores her youths in nation building can only do so at its own peril. Only men and women of content and character with requisite capacity can build a functional society.
May God bless and heal our land.
