OSOGBO – Voters across Osun State on Saturday began trooping out to various polling centres to exercise their franchise in the 2026 governorship election, amid noticeable vehicular and human movements in different parts of the state.

As early as 7:00 a.m., residents were seen moving towards their respective polling units, while combined teams of security operatives mounted checkpoints at strategic locations to monitor movements and ensure a peaceful conduct of the election.

Correspondents monitoring the exercise observed that officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), including ad-hoc personnel, had arrived at most of the polling centres visited and were making preparations for the commencement of voting.

At several polling units, significant numbers of voters were already gathered, with many checking their names on the voters’ registers pasted at the polling centres by the electoral officers. Others were seen waiting patiently for the accreditation and voting process to commence.

The situation was largely calm in the areas visited, with security personnel maintaining visible presence around polling centres and along major routes.

Polling units visited included locations in Olorunda Local Government Area and Osogbo Local Government Area.

In Osogbo, monitoring teams visited Ward 2, Units 6 and 8, as well as Ward 8, Unit 15, where voters were observed checking the displayed voters’ lists and awaiting the commencement of voting.

Also visited was Ward 3, Unit 3, where the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Ajibola Basiru, is expected to cast his vote.

The early-morning development indicated significant voter interest in the election, with residents turning out ahead of the commencement of the voting process.

Security agencies and electoral officials are expected to sustain their presence throughout the exercise to ensure that voters are able to cast their ballots peacefully and that the electoral process proceeds without disruption.
