Police Begin Manhunt As Gunmen Again Abduct Commuters In Osun

Suspected gunmen on Saturday evening abducted two commuters at Wasimi area along Ife Ibadan expressway in Osun state.

The commuters were said to have been travelling from Ibadan to Ilesa and were heading toward Ikire when the incident occurred.

The Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, Opalola Yemisi confirmed the incident.

She revealed that security agencies engaged with the gunmen in firefight and three suspects have been arrested.

She confirmed that the bus driver and one passenger were reportedly missing while items which include money and handsets were also carted away by the gunmen during the attack.

A release signed by the PPRO read in part: “consequent upon the incident of 6th March 2021 around 7:00pm, where a gang of criminals/hoodlums intercepted and attacked a Toyota Previa commercial Bus with Reg. Ondo KTP 331 RG plying Ibadan/Akure expressway by Egbu Village Ikire, in which unsuspecting commuters were eventually dispossessed of their valuables and the driver and one other abducted; the Police in prompt response, engaged the criminals in firefight which led to the arrest of three (3) suspects, and the rescue of other commuters safely to Ikire Police Division. The arrested suspects are making useful statements.

“Sequel to this report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olawale Olokode immediately combined a strong reinforcement of Police Tactical units, JTF, Local hunters, and Vigilantes with the Police teams on ground, to embark on search/rescue operation; combing the bush for the two missing persons, and possible arrest of all other fleeing criminals.

“He further reiterates his resolve that, all forms of criminal incendiary will be checkmated in all nook and crannies. He Also warns criminals to have a rethink, as the Command has declared total war on unscrupulous elements.

“Finally, the Commissioner of Police enjoined members of the public to support, co-operate, and collaborate with the Police in fighting crime to bring it down to the barest minimum, by providing us with creditable and prompt information.

IPOB/ESN Commander Killed As Police Raid Terrorists’ Camp In Imo

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has said that the second in command of an outlawed Eastern Security Network (ESN) Commander, Ebube Virus, has been killed in a fierce gun battle.

The deceased suspect was on the Imo State Police Command’s wanted list due to his nefarious activities in the Aboh Mbaise area of the State.

The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, disclosed this in a statement issued by the Police spokesman, Henry Okoye, on Tuesday.

According to the CP, “Following the confessions made by the suspected IPOB/ESN Terrorist allegedly involved in the killing of DPO Ahiazu Mbaise and other dastardly acts in the Mbaise axis, operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping squad led by CSP Oladimeji Odeyeyiwa on Monday 4th of December, 2023 stormed the criminal hideout of a deadly IPOB/ESN Terrorist Syndicate led by Ebube Virus and Ishaka, at Umuogu Amuzu in Aboh-Mbaise LGA of Imo State and dislodged the terrorists.

“In the process, a ferocious battle broke out between the terrorists and the combat-ready Police agents, neutralizing the Second in Command Ebube Virus, who is well-known on the Command’s wanted list due to their nefarious actions in the Mbaise axis. Others who had been shot at had escaped. From the neutralized terrorist, one AK-47 rifle with 19 rounds of live ammunition was found.

“An operation is underway to find additional fugitive suspects and bring them to justice.”

While praising the brave officers for their unwavering efforts in the fight against all violent crimes in the State, CP Danjuma affirmed the Command’s commitment to working with other security agencies with the aim of restoring peace in the state.

CP Danjuma called on Imo residents to support the Police and other sister security agencies with timely and actionable information that will assist in the crusade against terrorism in the state.

He encouraged owners of hospitals and first-aid outlets to report any person seen with or treating gunshot injuries to the nearest Police Station.

Osun Govt. Dragged To Court Over Dissolution Of Statutory Commissions

The Chairmen and members of the Statutory Commissions dissolved on 30th October, 2023 by the Osun State government have filed multiple law suits challenging the dissolution.

In separate four law suits filed at the National Industrial Court of Nigeria, Ibadan and signed by their counsel, Muhydeen Adeoye Galadima Esq on 13th November, 2023, the Claimants, urged, among other reliefs, the court to nullify the dissolution and direct the Osun State to stop giving further effect to the purported constitution of the new Commissions.

The claimants also prayed the court ask the State government to pay damages in the sum of 500,000,000.00 to them in each suit.

The commissions are Osun State Judicial Service Commission, Osun State Independent Electoral Commission OSSIEC, Osun State Civil Service Commission and Osun State House of Assembly Service Commission.

Joined as Defendants in the suits are Governor of Osun State, Attorney General of Osun State, Commissioner for Finance Osun State and Osun State House of Assembly.

Court sentences 5 To 5yrs Imprisonment for defrauding Osun Ex-Speaker N38m

A federal high court in Osogbo on Tuesday has convicted five persons for defrauding the immediate past Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly the sum of thirty eight million naira (N38m) in 2018.

The defendants in the case, kazeem agbabiaka, Femi Oyebode, Babatunde Oluajo, Adebiyi Kehinde Oseni, Oyebanji Oyeniyi and Rasheed Ojonla were facing a 5-count charge before the court, bothering on conspiracy to defraud, obtaining under false pretence, public ridicule and cyber crime.

Delivering his judgement, justice Emmanuel Ayoola described the convicted as a web of syndicates who did not deserve to be in the society without a reform thereby sentencing the five of them who were found guilty and convicted to five years imprisonment each.

The 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th defendants, Kazeem Agbabiaka, Femi Oyebode, and Babatunde Oluajo respectively were convicted and sentenced to 5years imprisonment having been found guilty of the 1st and 2nd count charge.

He however discharged and acquitted the 7th defendant, Ismaila Azeez, on the count charge bothering on cyberbullying while Kehinde Oseni was found guilty of the same charge and sentenced to 5 years imprisonment.

Recall that a video was released on social media where it was alleged that Timothy Owoeye was bathing with blood in the middle.

The video was said to have been released by one of the convits, Kehinde Oseni in an attempt to blackmail Owoeye after he was duped during his bid to become the Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly.
