There was pandemonium Tuesday afternoon at the MDS area of Osogbo as hoodlums numbering about 20 were forcefully disabled by the police from extorting money from a successful business man and owner of DON building materials company in the area.

The hoodlums called “omo onile” in local parlance had arrived the area around 2:30pm with matchetes ,clubs and other dangerous weapons and allegedly approached the owner of the company to pay what they call “land rent” .

The business man rebuffed and the hoodlums thereafter reportedly moved to a nearby construction site within the same vicinity where they menacingly demanded money from the engineers at the site.

The site engineers appealed to them to come back another day as the project owner would have to be briefed.

Daily Mail learnt that it was at this instance that the hoodlums went berserk before a team of policemen arrived the scene a few minutes later to dislodge the hoodlums.

The thugs reportedly tried to put up a resistance making the police to release a volley of bullets some of which narrowly missed innocent bystanders.

The hoodlums scampered away in the face of superior attack by the police as one of the bullets perforated the windscreen of a car belonging to a popular photographer, Wasiu Yusuf, a.k.a Fly while another bus belonging to a customer who had come to buy some building materials from DON PLAZA had its back screen shattered.

Yusuf who expressed joy that no one was hit by stray bullet said his concern was where to get money to buy a new screen for his car.

The policemen reportedly seized and took away some of the motorcycles that conveyed some of the thugs to the crime scene and took it to Dugbe Police Station.

In the meantime, traders in the MDS area, the New Orisunbare Market and workers at DON plaza are afraid that the hoodlums might come back soon
